For this busy family of four in Southwest London, space was at a premium. They needed two dedicated home offices that didn’t feel like cubicles. The challenge was particularly tough in the main study: the room needed to comfortably house a full-time workstation, a Peloton bike, a yoga zone, and a sleeping spot for the family dog — all while channeling a stylish mid-century aesthetic.
Our Approach
This was a puzzle of millimetres. We had to design joinery that worked around the equipment, rather than letting the equipment dominate the room. We started by positioning the desk to benefit from natural light (without glare) and tucked the Peloton near a discreet power source, leaving the centre of the room open for yoga mats. In the guest room, we designed a shallow run of storage under the window that doubles as a radiator cover and a headboard, solving three problems with one piece of furniture. In a room with this much tech, cables are the enemy. We designed secret access panels within the ribbed walnut desk to hide the inevitable wire mess, keeping the mid-century look clean and uncluttered.
The Result
Two rooms that work as hard as the parents do. The study is now a calm, nature-inspired retreat (thanks to the mural wallpaper) that switches effortlessly from Zoom calls to spin classes. By prioritizing custom built-ins over off-the-shelf furniture, we unlocked floor space they didn’t know they had, proving that you don’t need a bigger house, just a smarter plan.
